“The nomination of Brett Kavanaugh is very troubling for those of us who support a woman’s right to choose. We must watch very closely the upcoming hearings to determine if he/she would carry out the extreme Trump-Roskam agenda of reversing Roe v. Wade and, as Roskam has supported, banning abortions even for victims of rape. We must also be concerned that Judge Kavanaugh would strike down the Affordable Care Act, which Peter Roskam voted in Congress to do 60 times.”

“I am deeply concerned about U.S. Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh particularly when it comes to women’s health, contraception and reproductive rights. As a Member of Congress, I would be vigilant in defending a woman’s right to make personal, private medical decisions, including abortion, without the interference of politicians like Peter Roskam and Donald Trump.” said Casten.

“President Trump's defunding of the Affordable Care Act will condemn thousands here in Illinois to massive premium increases or lose their health care coverage entirely.” Casten said. “Peter Roskam voted repeatedly to kill the Affordable Care Act, and now with Trump’s callous action Peter Roskam gets his wish. It’s a heartless and vindictive act, especially since neither the President nor Peter Roskam have any viable alternative to helping people afford health care coverage.”

“Once again, Peter Roskam’s special-interest friends in Washington are trying to persuade voters that he’s something that he’s not,” said Casten. “Peter Roskam does not deserve an award for his work to privatize and restrict access to Medicare. Peter Roskam has repeatedly voted to end Medicare as we know it, as well as to keep prescription drugs expensive for seniors by stopping Medicare from getting a better deal from drug companies.”

“Donald Trump has set the new standard for taking credit for things he hasn’t done, and this new ad borrows from Trump’s playbook by thanking Peter Roskam for doing the exact opposite of what he actually did,” said Casten. “This ad heralds Peter Roskam for his work on taxes and health care, but in reality, Peter Roskam cut taxes for big corporations by raising taxes and premiums on the middle class, and voted to take away health care for millions of Americans - 34,000 of his own constituents.”

Showing unprecedented fundraising prowess, Sixth District congressional candidate Sean Casten today announced that he raised over $789,767 – with 98% of the donations $250 or less – in the 2nd Quarter of 2018. The amount exceeds what every previous challenger raised in a single quarter since Peter Roskam was elected. Since the March 20th primary over 69,136 individuals have contributed to the campaign.
