Casten Raises $789K in Quarter; Passes 69K Contributors
Far Exceeds Money Raised By Past Roskam Challengers
Downers Grove, IL (July 3, 2018) – Showing unprecedented fundraising prowess, Sixth District congressional candidate Sean Casten today announced that he raised over $789,767 – with 98% of the donations $250 or less – in the 2nd Quarter of 2018. The amount exceeds what every previous challenger raised in a single quarter since Peter Roskam was elected. Since the March 20th primary over 69,136 individuals have contributed to the campaign.
“I’m tremendously grateful for this outpouring of support from so many people who are determined to replace Peter Roskam’s hardcore partisanship with representation based on facts – not ideology,” Casten said. “Roskam votes with his party 97 percent of the time, and with President Trump 94 percent of the time. He’s failed to represent the mainstream views and values of the people of our district.”
Casten contrasted his grassroots financial support with Roskam’s reliance on corporate PACs and lobbyists, who have poured more than $1.8 million into Roskam’s campaign – much of it coming after the tax bill Roskam authored last year rewarded them with billions of dollars in corporate tax giveaways.
“We’ll never match the millions Roskam is raking in from the special interests in Washington – nor would I want to,” Casten said. “But if enough regular folks are mobilized for change, we can overcome the financial power of Roskam’s corporate benefactors.”
Sean Casten is a scientist and clean-energy entrepreneur with a record of creating jobs in the western suburbs of Chicago while fighting climate change. Sean is running for Congress to fight Peter Roskam’s and Donald Trump’s efforts to take away Illinois families’ health care, and fix the GOP’s reckless tax scam that raises taxes on the middle class to cut them for corporations and the rich. Sean and his wife Kara are raising their two daughters in Downers Grove where they both attend public schools.
