TODAY: PETER ROSKAM CAMPAIGNING WITH PAUL RYAN, ARCHITECT OF CUTS TO SOCIAL SECURITY & MEDICARE

Paul Ryan & GOP Want to Pay for Roskam’s Tax Giveaway By Cutting Social Security & Medicare

(Downers Grove, IL) November 2, 2018 – This afternoon, Peter Roskam will campaign with outgoing Republican Speaker Paul Ryan. In response, Illinois’ Sixth Congressional District candidate Sean Casten released the following statement:

“There is no clearer signal that Peter Roskam is out-of-touch with IL-06 than the fact that he is spending the last four days before the Election Day campaigning with the architect of cuts to Social Security and Medicare,” said Casten. “Americans worked hard their entire lives and paid in to Social Security and Medicare, but Peter Roskam has called Medicare recipients, ‘entitled,’ voted with Paul Ryan time and again to cut Medicare and turn it into a voucher program, and drafted President Trump’s Tax Scam that exploded the deficit by $2 trillion at the expense of middle class families. When Republicans try to cut Social Security and Medicare, it’s crystal clear where Roskam’s priorities are.”

Paul Ryan and other Republican leaders have proposed paying for the $2 trillion Trump tax bill they added to the deficit with cuts to seniors’ hard-earned benefits. Peter Roskam has previously expressed support for privatizing Social Security and cutting Medicare and voted for Paul Ryan’s proposal to privatize Medicare and turn it into a voucher program.

Sean Casten, on the other hand, has visited and held open discussions at over a dozen retirement communities in IL-06 about the need to protect Social Security and Medicare, and he has earned the endorsement of Social Security Works and the Alliance of Retired Americans.
