Twenty-Six Days Before the Election and Peter Roskam is Closer to the Trump Administration than Ever

(Downers Grove, IL) October 11, 2018 – Once again, President Donald Trump has dispatched his top cheerleader, Vice President Mike Pence, to Illinois to raise money for local Republicans, and Rep. Peter Roskam is a co-host of the event. Sixth District Congressional Candidate Sean Casten released the following statement:

“The gangs all here — President Trump’s rubber stamps are joining Peter Roskam to raise money for Trump’s allies here in Illinois. It’s no surprise that Peter Roskam is co-hosting tomorrow’s fundraiser with Vice President Mike Pence. Every day, Peter Roskam shows the voters of Illinois’ Sixth District that he will do Donald Trump’s bidding — voting with the President 94% of the time,” said Casten.

“Instead of meeting with constituents or holding town halls, once again, Peter Roskam shows that his priorities are those of the Trump Administration: sabotaging Illinoisans’ health care, gutting protections for pre-existing conditions, giving tax breaks to the wealthy at the expense of the middle class, and rubber stamping their extremist, anti-choice agenda.”

In July, Mike Pence traveled to Illinois to fundraise for Peter Roskam. At the time, Pence gave high praise to Peter Roskam, saying: “[Peter Roskam’s] taken a strong stand for conservative values every day since he was first elected in 2006.” Both Mike Pence and Peter Roskam hold extreme positions against LGBT rights, with Peter Roskam receiving a score of zero from the LGBT rights advocacy organization Human Rights Campaign. In his 24 year career, Roskam has voted against the Violence Against Women Act, equal pay for women, and continually votes to defund Planned Parenthood and restrict a women’s access to health care.
