CASTEN CALLS FOR FBI INVESTIGATION, CONDEMNS ROSKAM’S SILENCE

After Rep. Peter Roskam’s Continued Refusal to Rescind His Endorsement of Kavanaugh, Sean Casten Calls for an FBI Investigation Into the Credible Allegations Against the Supreme Court Nominee.

(Downers Grove, IL) September 27, 2018 – Congressman Peter Roskam should withdraw his endorsement of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, Illinois’ Sixth District Congressional candidate Sean Casten said today. On July 10, 2018, Congressman Peter Roskam issued an official statement saying that Kavanaugh “is the type of jurist Americans want on the Supreme Court. The appointment of Judge Kavanaugh is an excellent choice and I urge my Senate colleagues to confirm him.”

“Dr. Christine Blasey Ford has shown incredible courage in sharing her story with the Senate Judiciary committee and in front of the nation. I applaud her and I believe her. It is clear that there must be an FBI investigation and that the other women who have made credible allegations must be allowed to come forward to testify if they choose,” said Sean Casten, 6th District candidate for Congress. Peter Roskam and other Congressional Republicans rubber-stamped Judge Kavanaugh’s appointment the day it was made. In light of today’s testimony, his constituents deserve to know whether Peter Roskam believes Dr. Blasey Ford, and if he still sees Kavanaugh as an “exemplary” nominee that deserves a lifetime appointment on the Supreme Court.”

Casten criticized Peter Roskam at the time for jumping the gun and endorsing Kavanaugh’s appointment before hearings were held and Peter Roskam’s constituents could be heard from. Casten held his own listening session at the time to hear from constituents and experts on Roe v. Wade and women’s health issues pertinent to the SCOTUS nominee.
