CASTEN: ROSKAM COMPLICIT IN TRUMP ADMINISTRATION CUTTING REFUGEE RESETTLEMENT GOAL

Sean Casten Questions What Will Make Peter Roskam Speak Out Against Inhumane President Donald Trump

(Downers Grove, IL) September 18, 2018 – Following the Trump Administration announcement that it will be lowering the number of refugees entering the United States from 45,000 to 30,000, Sean Casten released the following statement:

“I am no longer shocked by Donald Trump’s transparent discrimination against those seeking safe harbor from war zones and life threatening circumstances, but I am still appalled by it – and even further disgusted by Peter Roskam’s complicity,” said Casten.

“Growing up, my parents organized a Vietnam War refugee resettlement program with local churches and community groups. The individuals who came to America through this program became leaders in the community and part of the fabric of the town. Providing a home for good people whose own countries have failed them has always been what makes America great. Donald Trump’s policies coupled with Peter Roskam’s acquiescence cast a dark shadow on our nation’s standing in the world.”

Historically, the United States resettled 80,000 refugees per year until the Trump administration cut that number nearly in half. Peter Roskam has endorsed Donald Trump’s refugee ban even while his own Republican colleague called it lacking compassion.
