Lakewood is home to two popular golf courses. Turnberry Country Club, voted best golf course in McHenry County, is a private, family-oriented, par 72, country club. Red Tail Golf Club is a public 18-hole championship golf course and clubhouse that has received a four-star rating.

What to See

There are six lakes that are at least partially in Lakewood, including a portion of Crystal Lake, one of the area’s most popular natural attractions. Along with the private beaches along West Lake, and  the south shore of Crystal Lake, Lakewood has two public beaches along Crystal Lake that provide free parking to all Lakewood village residents.

The village also has several natural wetlands and natural areas including the Kishwaukee Fen Nature Preserve.

All residents of Lakewood are part of the Crystal Lake Park District, and therefore able to enjoy all of the courts, facilities and activities in Brighton Oaks Park as well as boating on Crystal Lake.

Congressional Representation

Portions of Lakewood are in Illinois’ 14th district congressional district, while other areas of the village are in the 6th district.

In the 14th district, Lauren Underwood (D), a nurse from Naperville is running for the seat currently occupied by incumbent Randy Hultgren (R), who has held the seat since 2011.

In the 6th district, Sean Casten is running against the incumbent Peter Roskam, who has held the 6th district congressional seat since 2006.

Sean is committed to serving Lakewood and the rest of the 6th district by focusing on facts and working to strengthen the community’s schools and economy.
