Lake Barrington is a village along the southwestern side of Lake County, bordered by the Fox River. Lake Barrington takes its name from the large lake in the eastern section of the village, which was formerly known as Indian Lake. The area was inhabited primarily by Native Americans until 1832.

What to See in Lake Barrington Lake Barrington is home to beautiful natural preserves along the lake and the Fox River. The Fox River Preserve and Marina offers boating as well as an area for water skiing, wake boarding, tubing and fishing. Visitors to Lake Barrington can also find miles of woodland trails available for hiking, biking or cross country skiing. Grassy Lake Forest Preserve has winding trails through colorful sedge meadows that offer scenic overlooks of Grassy Lake and the Fox River Valley. It is a protected habitat for eight endangered and threatened species. Nearby Moraine Hills State Park, a 2200-acre facility, contains Lake Defiance, one of the few glacial lakes in Illinois. |

Lake Barrington is contained entirely within Illinois’ 6th congressional district.
