The village of Hinsdale is a western suburb of Chicago located in Cook and DuPage county. Hinsdale is known for its large, beautiful homes, fine schools and quaint, historic downtown.

Living in Hinsdale

Hinsdale is known for its highly-regarded public schools. Hinsdale Community Consolidated School District 181 has seven elementary schools, while Hinsdale Township High School District 86 includes Hinsdale Central and Hinsdale South High School. Both high schools rank among the top 20 high schools in Illinois.

Amita Health Adventist Medical Center in Hinsdale, formerly Hinsdale Hospital, was founded in 1904.  It is the only teaching hospital in DuPage county and listed among Truven’s Health’s 100 Top Hospitals.

What to See

Hinsdale’s historic downtown district, a popular destination for visitors, contains the Hinsdale Memorial building and library built in 1927 in the Georgian Revival style of architecture. The movie theater and Ostrum building, both built in 1925, are excellent examples of the Renaissance Revival style.

Elsewhere in Hinsdale, the Katherine Legge Memorial Park and Lodge features 52 acres of woodland, a lodge, clubhouse, playground, soccer fields and tennis courts.

In the early 1900’s, Maude Bell was known for growing horseradish along the banks of Ischua Creek. Today, Hinsdale’s annual Horseradish Festival is held in June at Hinsdale Memorial Park. Besides everything horseradish, demonstrations and live music, the festival offers wine, craft beer, and a variety of local crafts.
