Hawthorn Woods is a village in central Lake County, located about 40 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. The village motto is “Rural by Design,” reflecting the village’s open spaces and preserved natural areas.

Hawthorn Woods is primarily a residential area, with appealing neighborhoods and good schools that have attracted many young families to the area. Four public school districts serve Hawthorn Woods, including Diamond Lake School District 76, Fremont School District 79, Kildeer Countryside Community Unit School District 96 and Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95. What to See In addition to nine parks with scenic areas, ponds and sports recreation areas, Hawthorn Woods is home to Brierwoods Forest Preserve, which features serene walking trails and an observation deck that overlooks a wetland area. The wetlands shelter a rich variety of native plants and wildlife, including butterfly habitats that are part of the Migratory Monarch Butterfly project. The beautiful Hawthorn Woods Country Club was designed by famous golf pro, Arnold Palmer. It was host to the Illinois Open Championship from 2008 to 2011 and again in 2015. The Hawthorn Woods Aquatic Center features a competition pool, zero depth activity pool, diving well, water slides, spray and climbing features and concessions. Special events in Hawthorn Woods include the Family Fun Fest at the Aquatic Center, the Friday Night Car Shows during the summer, and Hometown Holiday in December. |

Hawthorn Woods is contained entirely within Illinois’ 6th congressional district. In 2018, Sean Casten is running against the incumbent Peter Roskam, who has held the 6th district congressional seat since 2007.
