Darien is one of Chicago’s southwestern suburbs, located in the southern Dupage County. Incorporated in 1969 by the residents of several subdivisions who wanted to form a new community, Darien’s motto is “A Nice Place to Live.”
Living in Darien
Darien has two school districts, Darien District 61 and Cass District 63, that feed into Hinsdale South High School and Downers Grove South High School, both of which have been recognized as Silver Medal Schools. Darien borders Argonne National Laboratory, a large federal scientific research facility. The city is conveniently located near the Stevenson Expressway and Downers Grove Metro train station, which gives it easy access to the city of Chicago. What to See Bordering Darien is the Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve, which offers miles of scenic trails for hikers, bicyclists, horseback riders and cross-country skiers. Historic sites in Darien include the National Shrine of St. Therese and The Old Lace School House Museum, a one-room schoolhouse originally built in 1856 and rebuilt in 1925. The annual Darien Fest in September is one of the city’s most popular events, featuring local food, entertainment, and carnival rides. |
Congressional Representation
In Illinois’ 6th congressional district, Sean Casten is running against the incumbent Peter Roskam, who has held the 6th district congressional seat since 2007. Sean is committed to serving Darien and the rest of the 6th district by focusing on facts and working to strengthen the community’s schools and economy. |
