Carpentersville is located in the northern part of the 6th district, in Kane County near Elgin. It is a far northwestern suburb of Chicago, with a population of approximately 38,000. Carpentersville was founded in 1837 and grew slowly at first, but experienced a period of rapid expansion when I-90 created a more convenient link between the area and downtown Chicago. Carpentersville is now the largest municipality in Kane County’s Dundee Township.
