FACT CHECKER CALLS OUT PETER ROSKAM FOR LYING ABOUT HIS RECORD ON PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS

Health Care Votes Haunt Peter Roskam as he Tried to Hide his Record to Deceive IL06 Voters

(Downers Grove, IL) October 25, 2018 – Wanted to be sure you saw Washington Post Fact Checker Glenn Kessler spoke out last night and this morning about Peter Roskam’s lies in the debate about his record of protecting pre-existing conditions. In Glenn’s words, “if you voted for the AHCA, defend your decision, but do not try to hide behind our Pinocchios.” Peter Roskam voted to remove protections for pre-existing conditions, impose an age tax, and kick millions of Americans off coverage. It is high time he stop lying his constituents.

TWEETS FULL TEXT:

This quote in a debate by @PeterRoskam appears to be false: “Sean [Casten] has falsely accused me of being against protecting people with preexisting conditions and that was fact-checked by the Washington Post, who gave that four Pinocchios.” We made no such ruling 1/2

I suspect that he’s peddling a claim that recently earned Four Pinocchios. Lawmakers, if you voted for AHCA, defend your decision, but do not try to hide behind our Pinocchios.  2/2

Readers, we need your help. We have now caught three GOPers — @PeterRoskam @RepJeffDenham (via @CLFSuperPAC) @DaveBratVA7th — claim we gave Four Pinocchios to their D opponents re preexisting conditions. Not true! Please alert us if you spot any more. We’d like to stop this.

These fact checks dovetail with AARP recently reminding their membership about Republicans like Peter Roskam who voted to repeal the ACA, impose an age tax, jeopardize protections for pre-existing conditions, and kick millions of Americans off their coverage.
