ANOTHER OUT-OF-DISTRICT DEBATE IN THE BOOKS

Sean Casten Calls on Peter Roskam to Debate In-District

(Downers Grove) August 22, 2018 – Following another out-of-district debate with the Chicago Tribune, Sixth Congressional Candidate Sean Casten released the following statement challenging Peter Roskam – again – to debate in the district:

“Today, Peter Roskam, doubled-down on his refusal to debate or hold a town hall meeting in his own district” said Casten. “While I enjoyed the opportunity today to highlight why Peter Roskam has been a yes-man for Donald Trump in their attacks on health care, raising taxes on the middle class, and prohibiting a woman’s right to choose – I would challenge Peter Roskam, again, to meet me in-district to face our voters in-person.”

Peter Roskam and Sean Casten have debated three times outside of the Sixth Congressional District, and only once in front of a live audience. They have been invited to four joint forums in district, and Sean Casten has accepted all invites:

  • Coalition for a Better Illinois 6th on August 6th

  • League of Women Voters of McHenry County on September 10th

  • League of Women Voters of Glen Ellyn on September 16th

  • League of Women Voters of the Palatine Area on October 6th

“If anything, I welcome the chance to ask Peter Roskam in-person why, when asked how he’d pay for the $2 trillion deficit created by the tax bill he wrote, he immediately focused on cutting Social Security and Medicare.”

The next upcoming debate is scheduled for Monday, September 10th with the Daily Herald Editorial Board. The Daily Herald offered to hold the meeting in public, but Peter Roskam refused.
